Complex Trauma

At Authentically Living Psychological Services, PLLC our clinicians specialize working with individuals who have experienced trauma and hardship. Whether you have experienced longterm neglect or abuse, or have experienced an incident that has left you unsettled and fearful, we are accepting of each person's unique experience.

Trauma is unique and complex. It can yield to difficulty connecting, difficulty trusting, difficulty setting boundaries, difficulty identifying harmful relationships, difficulty self-soothing, and difficulty identifying meaning and purpose in life.

Trauma can also yield to more severe experiences of drug use, self-harm, and risk-seeking undertakings, impulsivity, and addictive activities.

Many who have experienced trauma often feel isolated, angry, scared, and disconnected. We may be wandering through life aimlessly, carelessly, and with little regard for our personhood.

We also notice dissociation, depersonalization, derealization, and other experiences that history time, memory, and connection with our current being, surrounding, and context.

Our clinicians are affirming, supportive, and believe that validating one's trauma is critical to wellness and healing. We aim to empower those who have been made to feel disempowered. We take a slow and delicate approach with those who have experienced trauma and who are looking to process old scars and newer wounds. If you are wanting a space to process your trauma, be an active participant in your life, and connect more meaningfully, we encourage you to reach out today.

Of note, Dr. Shaw has additional expertise in psychosis and schizophrenia.
