New York Mental Health Counselor with Expertise in Existential Therapy, Identity, and Systemic Justice

Sapira Cahana is a licensed mental health counselor in New York, offering an authentic, exploratory approach to therapy grounded in existential and relational theory. With a background in philosophy, Hebrew studies, and advocacy for justice and disability communities, Sapira helps individuals navigate life’s most complex questions—identity, purpose, meaning, grief, and the challenges that arise in times of transition.

For many, life can feel stagnant or misaligned—relationships feel disconnected, careers are unfulfilling, and it becomes difficult to find a clear sense of direction. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by life’s changes, struggling with existential questions, or facing anxiety or loss, Sapira offers a supportive space to explore the deeper aspects of your life. Her approach is particularly valuable for those feeling lost, stuck, or disconnected, and she brings compassion to those navigating complex transitions in personal identity, relationships, and life purpose.

Therapy for Meaning, Purpose, and Self-Discovery
Sapira views therapy as a journey of self-exploration, where deep reflection can help you uncover what truly matters to you. Life is often filled with expectations, pressures, and roles we are expected to play—sometimes leading us to feel disconnected. In therapy with Sapira, you’ll explore the tension between the external demands of life and your deeper sense of self. This space is about finding clarity on what’s meaningful to you, without rushing to find “solutions” or quick fixes.

The therapy process is rooted in existential exploration: an opportunity to confront the uncertainties of life, reflect on personal narratives, and process the confusion and frustration that arise from feeling lost. Sapira’s goal is not to provide easy answers but to walk with you as you navigate the complexities of existence—helping you find a clearer, more authentic path forward. Together, you’ll explore how your internal world aligns with or clashes against the demands of your relationships, career, and personal identity.

Therapy for Caregivers, Disabilities, LGBTQ+ Individuals, and Artists

Sapira creates a therapy environment where you can be fully seen and understood, especially if you often feel marginalized or "between worlds." Whether you're a caregiver grappling with your identity beyond your caregiving role, an artist struggling to reconnect with your creative flow, a disabled individual navigating the challenges of access and societal limitations, or a member of the LGBTQ+ community exploring your authentic self—this space is for you.
In therapy with Sapira, you'll explore not just the external challenges you face, but also the inner conflicts that arise from those experiences. Her approach integrates existential psychology, disability justice, relational-cultural theory, and the human experience, providing you with the opportunity to explore grief, purpose, love, and identity.
Sapira helps you navigate both personal and systemic complexities, unraveling the layers of your experience so you can reconnect and move toward a life that reflects your authentic self.

Welcome Video
A Poem Written by Sapira
Barren was the world
the seas flowed callously
the shores followed superfluously
Neutral nature Without pulse or longing
The Abyss neither contemplative nor profound
A moment when The Sacred Lotus closed its petals
and whispered to the Vedic seers
“Everything is not the same as it was”
And where has the words of Socrates, Buddha, and Confucius gone
in what alien land does the wind rustle their verities?
“God is dead” the German philosopher tried
But he was duped and eventually died
And then out of the lonely tranquility
The universe did Implore
From the Deep peace and great repose
a single orchid in an abandoned orchard
In my people’s village, the pillaged and tortured
her single self sung and sung
“We cleave to our numinous breath oh holy blessed one”
In an instant the messianic gale has come
Oh when that mountain quivered facing ursa major
Saint Friedrich painted you,
Oh Wanderer above the Sea of Fog
you filled the sublime in every chasm
But who to thank?
To which god or idol do we bow?
How can the universe be so grateful for a single creation?
We will never forsake or be naught
We have found the missing secret well.
